Southern Utah Water Activities
There are swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing opportunities at two reservoirs near St. George. Gunlock Reservoir (240 acres) is situated among small hills and moderate vegetation. Gunlock State Park on its southern shore has a boat ramp and a primitive campground with vault toilets. The reservoir yields bass and crappie. It is located 21 miles northwest of St. George just south of the town of Gunlock.
Quail Creek Reservoir (590 acres) is a larger and more attractive reservoir situated beneath red rock cliff walls. Quail Creek State Park (along its southwestern shore) offers a paved boat ramp, picnic area, swimming beach and a modern campground. It yields rainbow trout, bass and blue gill.
The Sand Hollow Reservoir is now a reality. The reservoir was conceived by the Washington County Water Conservancy District (“District”) in the early 1990s as an additional storage reservoir for the Quail Creek system. It is located approximately 5.5 miles southwest of Hurricane almost directly south of Quail Creek Reservoir. The reservoir was created by two dams and will has a surface area of over 1,000 acres.
